Vogue Italia is at the forefront of controversy once again, this time addressing the topic of domestic violence against women.

In past publication the magazine has addressed everything from – rehab, fighting racism, the 2010 BP oil spill and cosmetic surgery addiction.

However the April cover feature titled “Horror Movie,” shot by Steven Meisel and inspired by the films of Dario Argento and Stanley Kurbrick’s “The Shining” is definitely the publications most disturbing to date.

The images, show through vivid detail the horrors of domestic violence that so many women face on a daily bases.

“Violence towards women has never been so hard-hitting as it is now, so reminiscent of a ‘real horror show’…The intent is in no way to shock, but rather to raise awareness of a horror that must be condemned!” says Franca Sozzani, Vogue Italia’s editor-in-chief.

The question is should a fashion magazine be tackling such serious issues through fashion editorial spreads? Regardless of one’s feels about the shoot, there is no denying the topics importance. www.vogue.it
