Pharrell Williams has announced yet another designer collaboration, this time with French leather good purveyor Moynat, creating a capsule collection of men’s luxury bags inspired by vintage steam locomotives. The Train Bags will be designed from hand-tooled acrylic resin or hand-carved ebony with brass smokestack side rods and steam dome clasp.
Moynat creative director Ramesh Nair told WWD that he sourced a specialty atelier in Italy to carve each train, which takes three days to complete. He also acknowledged the nostalgic nature of trains, commenting, “Every grown-up guy has a child inside.” Sarah Andelman, Colette’s creative director and purchasing director, first introduced Williams, to Moynat.
The Train Bags will debut on October 13th at Colette, in Paris and come with a hefty price tag. The resin bags will retail for about 10,000 euros or around $13,000 dollars and the ebony version is set to retail for about 3,200 euros or about $4000.
The limited addition capsule collection will also include silk scarves and leather pouches with train motifs. www.colette.fr
