Few were Hits but many were Misses last night on the red carpet at the 40th Anniversary of the American Music Awards. Frankly I don’t know what was worse the red carpet fashion or the lack of musical talent? Maybe I’m just getting old but am I the only one who remembers the days of, AMA musical heavy hitters? Well talent aside my eye kept going back to the bad drag. I only hope that this isn’t a precursor of fashion to come as we head, head-on into awards season? Thankfully there were a few who got it right amidst the mess. Here’s a look at my top ten Hits/Misses from the show.

Hit: Taylor Swift who either has a great stylist or a great sense of personal style, was a big hit last night in her lace long sleeved floral mini by Zuhair Murad with deep plunging back cleavage.

Hit: Kerry Washington star of one of my favorite new hit shows, “Scandal,” was stunning in a lemon zest long sleeved laced tea length dress by Stella McCartney, paired beautifully with a pair of nectarine closed-toe-pumps, both key colors trending big for Spring 2013.

Hit: Gwen Stefani flanked by her No Doubt band mates, all wearing black and white, selected an oversized beaded tuxedo jacket, with bra top, and skinny leggings by Balmain.

Hit: Heidi Klum was gorgeous selecting another Alexandre Vauthier dress, this one in gold lace with padded shoulders and capped sleeve detail, high side slit and gold accessories.

Hit: Jenny McCarthy looked magnificent in a black ruched bustier and gold sequined skirt, accented with an oversized belt, by Dolce & Gabbana with an upswept pompadour hair and minimal accessories.

Miss: Christina Aguilera in a purple ombré gown by Pamella Roland, with a shoulder length bob and bangs just didn’t work. As much as I wanted to like this salute to old Hollywood glam the look fell short and seemed dated.

Miss: Nicki Minaj also selected a neon lemon zest strapless gown by Monique Lhuillier but sadly looked over dressed and found her voluminous hair fighting with her train.

Miss: Brandy who’s hair and makeup was beautiful, fell short in the dress department selecting a Grecian style gold and black lurex pleated wrap dress with matching ankle booties that was reminiscent of a toga gone wrong.

Miss: Kimberly Cole was so close to being a hit, in her long sleeved beaded mini dress until somebody talked her into a modified “I Dream of Jennie,” ponytail. The key when wearing a sexy LBeadedD ladies, less is always more.

Miss: will.i.am I get it but I just didn’t get this one. It just looked like a bad Klingon costume.
