One of my favorite cities for fashion and art, Antwerp has done it again presenting Antwerp Icons in partnership with MoMu Fashion Museum.

The outdoor art project is part of a Happy Birthday Dear Academie, celebration of the 350th anniversary of the Antwerp Academy and the 50th anniversary of it Fashion Department.

“The monumental proportions are reminiscent of the totemic ‘giants’ that have been carried in Antwerp processions since the 14th century. It is a nice way to highlight the connection between the Fashion Museum and the city center,” said Luk Lemmens, deputy Culture Province of Antwerp.

For the open-air project Antwerp Icons, 12 celebrated Antwerp fashion designers, all alumni of the Fashion Department of the Academy, have each selected one of their most important works. The installations include works from designers; A.F. Vandevorst, Ann Demeulemeester, Bernhard Willheim, Christian Wijnants, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene, Dries Van Noten, Maria Yee, Martin Margiela, Peter Pilotto, Veronique Branquinho and Walter Van Beiendonck.

Photographer Ronald Stoops, make-up artist Inge Grognard, and fashion designer Dirk Van Saene present personal interpretations of these garments in a styling with printed bodysuits, which refer to the signature of the designers. The large format photos will pop up on various locations all over the city.

I love it! Oh that’s a new place on my list.
Glad you like the post. Antwerp is such a great city for art and fashion. I love going to MoMu the fashion museum everything I’m in the city and the new MAS state museum is equally as amazing.
